Porcelain Crowns Hermosa Beach

Porcelain Crowns are used to restore broken down teeth, teeth with extensive decay, teeth with existing large fillings and some endodontically treated teeth.  Crowns are composed of many different materials including porcelain, zerconia, pressed ceramics, reinforced composites, gold alloys and porcelain fused to gold alloys.

Most crowns are fabricated by indirect techniques and require two separate appointments. One appointment is for preparation and one for seating. During the preparation appointment, the tooth is prepared and a temporary crown is provided.  An impression of the prepared tooth and the opposing dentition are made.  The impressions are used to fabricate the crown in the laboratory.  During the seating appointment, that crown is cemented on the tooth.

Porcelain Crowns can now be placed in one appointment due to advances in chairside CAD/CAM systems (CEREC, E4D).  These systems use either an optical image (CEREC) or a laser image (E4D) of the prepared teeth.  The computer generated image is transferred to the milling machine.  The crown is milled under the direction and the specifications provided by the computer.  These systems eliminate the need for a second appointment.   A tooth is prepared, the crown is fabricated and the patient has the final crown placed during the same appointment.
